"Don't Let Go"

While teaching swim lessons this morning, I was teaching a 3 year old named Nicholas. He's so cute and precious! Today we were working on back floating. He was able to do it by himself, as long as I had one hand under his back. My fingers were barely touching him, he was in all essence floating by himself, if I would take my fingers away though, he would start kicking and flailing and I'd have to grab him. He kept saying "don't let go" over and over, and I kept telling him, I have to let go, you can do this Nicholas, you can do this.

I realized how much this is like life. We are always holding onto something. Past relationships, unforgiven mistakes, missed opportunities. We don't ever want to let it go, we can't let it go. But we have to. We have to let it go. We all have to be able to back-float. And to back-float, you have to let go.

I'm letting go of everything that's holding me back. Friendships I've lost, mistakes I've made, opportunities I never seized. It's gone. They won't stop me now.

I'm letting go. Just like Nicholas did today. He didn't sink, and neither will I. I'm letting go.
