Desert Training

When I hear the name "Moses", several things come to my head. Moses: the guy who God gave the 10 commandments to. Moses: the guy who delivered the people from Egypt. Moses: the one who parted the Red Sea.

What I don't think of when I hear the name "Moses". I don't think of a guy who spent FOURTY years in the desert, waiting on God's call. That is not what comes to mind at all. I think of this extremely successful man who loved the Lord and who did significant work for the Kingdom of God.

The thing is, we all have our times in the desert. These times are hard, and it is in the middle of these periods when we don't feel like anything is happening. When we aren't growing closer to the Lord, when we are even falling away perhaps. These times are rough. Nobody wants to spend time in the desert, and nobody wants to admit that they've been stuck in the desert, in a dry spot.

These times are so much more than waiting in the desert. It is during these times that the Lord is training us, shaping us, preparing us to be ready to do what He has for us to do. We suffer trials and hardships during these times, but the Lord uses all of that to ready us for what He has planned next, what is planned after the desert.

Moses spent 40 years in the desert before He was able to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Desert training is not pleasant, but it does help mold us into the people that God wants and needs us to be!
